BOSTON, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology Athletic Department celebrated its senior student-athletes on Friday afternoon. In addition to seniors receiving gifts commemorating their time as a Leopard, the Carl A. Swanson and Eugenia Louise Sweeney Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards were awarded.

The Swanson Award, given to a male senior student-athlete who has excelled both academically and athletically while showing exemplary character, was given to Kyle Romich (Groton, Mass.) of the men's basketball team. The Sweeney Award, which is given to a female senior student-athlete who meets the same criteria, was awarded to Megan McLaughlin (Southington, Conn.) of the women's basketball team.

A Business Management major, Romich started all 26 games for the Leopards and averaged 17.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 42.4 percent from the floor. Scoring 20 or more points on nine occasions, he posted a career high of 32 points in a 75-72 win at Endicott on Feb. 16, grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds in an 83-72 win over Emmanuel on Nov. 14, and had a career-high four steals in a 64-62 loss to Regis on Nov. 14. Romich, who was named to the All-Tournament Team at both the Coaches vs. Cancer Greater Boston Shootout and the Coaches vs. Cancer Greater Boston Shootout, also recorded four double-doubles on the season and his 456 points are the eighth-highest in a single season in program history.

Romich earned First Team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors and was named the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Additionally, he was also named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's Basketball Team; the lone senior in the CCC to earn this honor. He was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court.

After transferring from Saint Anselm, Romich appeared in 44 contests in his two seasons at Wentworth and for his career averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game and connected on 65 career three pointers.

A Construction Management major, McLaughlin was a four-year starter for the Leopards and posted her highest offensive output during her senior season when she averaged 6.7 points to go along with 4.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. She had a season-high 15 points in a 67-60 loss to Curry on Dec. 8 and dished out a season-high eight assists in a 57-45 loss to Salve Regina on Feb. 13. Additionally, she recorded a career-high 11 rebounds in a 51-39 win over Gordon on Jan. 19.

McLaughlin ranks among the program leaders in assists (fifth, 288), assists per game (fifth, 3.0), and games played (eighth, 97). She also averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game for her career. She posted a career-high 18 points in a 62-61 win over Manhattanville on Nov. 17, 2013 including hitting the game-winning three pointer as time expired.

Her work in the classroom was also recognized by being named the 2016 recipient of the Wentworth Bowl, which is the highest honor a Wentworth student can receive.
