Men's Outdoor Track Debuting in 2020

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology Director of Athletics Cheryl Aaron is pleased to announce the addition of Men's Outdoor Track and Field effective for the spring of 2020.

"As the Wentworth Athletic Department continues to expand, sponsoring Men's Outdoor Track and Field is a seamless fit to our intercollegiate opportunities," said Aaron. "Our current and future track and field students will now have the opportunity to compete in all three seasons, further developing their athletic identities."

Head coach Dan Roark will lead the program after having spent the past five seasons with the men's cross country and indoor track and field teams. "This is an exciting step as we continue to grow our Cross Country and Track and Field program to include Men's Outdoor Track. We have had great success in the short history of our programs and adding Outdoor Track will only add to it," said Roark. "This gives our student-athletes more opportunities to compete and lengthens our time to improve over the year.  This has been a thrilling journey since our first year of Varsity Cross Country in 2014 and Indoor Track in 2017."

In its short history, the Wentworth cross country team has won three Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships, while indoor track continues to set high expectations. In its first varsity season, Leopards' standout distance runner Dan McSolla qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships, and later earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the mile. This past season, the Leopards entered the institute's first-ever pole vaulter, who qualified for the Division III Regional Meet.

Roark's 2018-2019 indoor track roster was made up of 25 student-athletes whom competed in distance, sprint, and field events. The roster size was the largest since the program's transition from club to varsity in 2016.

"I am eager to see what the future holds going forward for this program," concluded Roark.
