Greg Basmajian Joins Athletic Training Staff

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology Head Athletic Trainer Jackie Clark today announced the hiring of Greg Basmajian as the Institute’s assistant athletic trainer, effective immediately.

“I feel fortunate to become a member of the Wentworth Athletic Department,” said Basmajian. “I was impressed by the energy and atmosphere that was present on campus and will bring the same enthusiasm to working with the student-athletes in the Sports Medicine Department. I’m excited to get started.”

Basmajian comes to Wentworth after spending the last three years as a certified athletic trainer at Yale University. While at Yale he was the primary athletic trainer for six sports (men’s soccer, baseball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s fencing). In addition to his responsibilities with the aforementioned sports, he conducted continuing education events for the athletic medicine department, served as a liaison between the athletic training staff and sports medicine physicians, and was a clinical instructor for undergraduate athletic training students from Quinnipiac University.

A native of Haverhill, Mass., Basmajian joined the Yale staff shortly after graduating from Merrimack College. While an undergraduate at Merrimack, he worked with the Warriors’ softball team in 2008 and the men’s basketball team during the 2009-10 season and also worked at Salem (N.H.) High School during the spring of 2009. He was named the 2010 Athletic Training Student of the Year by Merrimack’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a three-year letterwinner for the Warrior football team. Basmajian earned his Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Merrimack in 2010 and is a candidate to receive a Master’s degree in business administration from Albertus Magnus College this fall.

“I am very excited to have Greg join the Wentworth Sports Medicine staff this upcoming year,” said Clark. “He will bring a unique perspective to the institution with his diverse athletic training experience at different collegiate levels.”

In addition to his athletic training background, Basmajian served as a strength & conditioning intern at both Merrimack and Harvard and from 2009-12 he was a performance coach at the Cedardale Athletic Club in his hometown.

“We are looking forward to Greg’s true passion and energy for his field,” added Director of Athletics Angel Ayres. “He will be a great asset to our staff and our student-athletes.”
