BOSTON, Mass. – For the third straight year the Wentworth
Institute of Technology Department of Athletics hosted a soccer
clinic for nearly 30 Special Olympians from the area.
The clinic, which was held prior to the women’s soccer game
against Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Salve Regina, was
conducted by numerous student-athletes representing several of the
Leopards’ 16 varsity teams and provided drills and
instructional games for the Special Olympians and the participants
were introduced as a part of the pre-game introductions for the
women’s soccer game.
Wentworth’s partnership with the Special Olympics is in
conjunction with an NCAA Division
III initiative and its purpose is to improve the
lives of Special Olympics athletes through their involvement with
Division III student-athletes and to foster a mutual learning
experience between Division III student-athletes and Special
Olympics athletes.
The partnership will serve as another opportunity to demonstrate
the citizenship and comprehensive learning attributes of Division
III student-athletes. Student-athletes giving back to their local
(and often national and international) communities not only adds to
the comprehensive learning component of Division III, but also
provides a venue for passion and service.
Wentworth will be hosting a basketball clinic and tournament in
January.
