BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Athletic Department mourn the loss of Frank Nestor, who passed away on Tuesday, May 12. A resident of Melrose, Mass., Nestor had retired from Wentworth as a professor of applied mathematics in 2012 after nearly 50 years of service to the Institute.

In addition to his teaching duties, Nestor had served as the dean of students, dean of faculty, and was the Leopards’ first head men’s basketball coach at the NCAA level, an affiliation in which he worked to obtain for Wentworth. While he had served as the men’s basketball coach prior to the Leopards becoming an NCAA Division III member in 1984, he guided Wentworth from 1984-1994 and during his tenure both prior to and as an NCAA member, he won over 100 career games. During the 1988-89 season he led his team to the Commonwealth Coast Conference title game for the first time in program history.

For many years after he stopped coaching, he served as tutor within the Athletic Department, helping many students and athletes improve their grades in mathematics courses. He was inducted as a charter member into the Wentworth Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose.  The Funeral Service will be Friday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Robinson Funeral Home.  A celebration of his life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 70 W. Emerson St., Melrose, on Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m.
