BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman pitcher Aaron Denis (Dover, N.H.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team started his career off in fine fashion as he was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for games played from March 3-9.
Denis hurled a six-hit shutout to help the Leopards win their first game, a 3-0 win over WPI in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader. In the win he walked just one and struck out six batters and held the Engineers without a hit over the first three innings. In the seventh inning he left the tying run at the plate as he started the inning giving up back-to-back singles before recording two strikeouts – both looking – and a pop up to shortstop to end the game.
Wentworth is 3-1 in is scheduled to play Penn State-Altoona on Wednesday in Lakeland, Florida.
