Spitz, Burst Earn CCC Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – After a week that saw the Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball team post a 6-2 record, two of its members were honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as senior Jon Spitz (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Jordan Burst (Jackson, N.J.) were named the conference's player and rookie of the week, respectively.

Spitz batted .500 (15-for-20), with one double, one triple, seven RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases to help the Leopards close out a successful spring break trip to Florida with a 6-2 week. He registered six consecutive multiple-hit games and either scored or drove in one run in each of the Leopards' eight contests.  His top performance was a seven-hit effort in a doubleheader sweep of Penn State-Altoona. Spitz, who also committed just one error in 29 chances over the course of the week, returned from the Sunshine State hitting .514.

Burst batted .432 (10-for-23) with six RBI and eight runs scored and was a key contributor to the Leopards' 6-2 week. He hit safely in six of Wentworth's eight games and notched multiple hits in four contests. His top performances of the week included a 3-for-3, two RBI showing in a 10-1 victory over SUNYIT, and three RBI in a 9-3 triumph over Worcester State. Burst has played in nine of the team's 10 games on the Florida trip and is batting .400 to begin his career.

Wentworth sits at 7-3 and, after a postponement at Brandeis on Wednesday, looks to start its northern schedule at Fitchburg State on Saturday.
