Colon Named CCC Rookie of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman guard Jherson Colon (Boston, Mass.) of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team closed out his fine rookie campaign by being named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for games played from February 24-March 1. This marks the fourth time this season Colon has been named the league's rookie of the week.

Colon helped the Leopards to a 1-1 week, averaging 22.5 points and 4.0 assists per game and shot 50 percent from three-point land. In an 81-78 upset win over Eastern Nazarene in the CCC quarterfinals, he connected on 8-of-16 shots from the floor (including going 4-for-7 form behind the arc) and scored a career-high 25 points to go along with dishing out four assists. In a 66-55 loss to eventual league champion Gordon in the semifinals, he scored 20 points and had four assists.

Starting 16 of the 24 games in which he played, Colon, who was named Third Team All-CCC, led the team in scoring with a 14.3 points per game average to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. In addition to leading the team in scoring he led the Leopards with 48 3-pointers made and shot 76.6 percent from the free throw line.

Under first-year head coach Arlen Galloway, Wentworth finished 12-15.
