Bessette, Fulcar Earn CCC Weekly Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – After posting a 2-0 week and running its win streak to three games, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team had two of its players honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference as senior guard Ray Bessette (Dedham, Maine) and freshman guard Cesar Fulcar (Watertown, Mass.) were named the conference's player and rookie of the week, respectively.

Bessette led the Leopards to a pair of key first-semester conference victories, as Wentworth topped host Salve Regina, 63-44, and also defeated defending CCC champion Gordon 72-61. He recorded 14 points, six rebounds four assists and two steals in the 19-point triumph at Salve and added 13 points, five boards and two assists in the win over Gordon. In two games, Bessette shot 10-for-16 (.625) from the field and was 4-for-8 (.500) from behind the arc. Starting all seven of Wentworth's games, Bessette is averaging 6.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the 3-4 Leopards.

Fulcar averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals, helping the Leopards to a pair of CCC victories. In a 63-44 win at Salve Regina, Fulcar recorded 10 points and six rebounds. He followed that with 13 points, three assists, and three steals in a 72-61 triumph over defending CCC champion Gordon. In two games, Fulcar shot 8-for-16 (.500) from the floor. He has started three of Wentworth's seven games thus far and is averaging 6.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Wentworth wraps up first-semester play tomorrow night (December 9) at Curry.
