Men's Basketball Rolls Past Curry for Second Straight Win

MILTON, Mass – Sophomore Jason Ganley (Northbridge, Mass.) connected on 7-of-12 shots from the floor, en route to a team-high 23 points as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's basketball team took its second straight win with an 85-71 win over Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Leopards improve to 11-8 overall and 9-3 in CCC play while the Colonels fall to 0-19 (0-12) on the season.

The Leopards came out the blocks scoring the first five points on a three pointer from Ganley and a jumper from senior Kyle Romich (Groton, Mass.). However, Curry went on a 12-0 run, fueled by back-to-back three pointers from senior Tim Flanagan (Providence, R.I.), and took a 12-5 lead with 15:16 left in the opening half.

Junior Dan DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) ended Wentworth's scoring drought at 4:14 as he buried a shot from behind the arc which started a 9-3 spurt and made it a 15-14 game after Ganley hit two free throws with 11:00 left. Junior James Pina (Warwick, R.I.) scored Curry's next six points, however a free throw from sophomore Sam Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.) and a three pointer from sophomore Ben Kizel (Short Hills, N.J.) between Pina's points had Wentworth trailing by three with 9:14 left.

Four straight points from Ganley and a senior Ian Therriault (Auburn, Maine) free throw gave Wentworth a 23-21 lead with 6:25 before Pina answered with a layup to tie the game. Romich and DeVaux hit consecutive threes to give the Leopards a six point lead and ignited a 17-2 run to close the half with a 40-25 lead.

Ganley made a layup and would hit one of two free throws to extend the run to 20-2 and give the Leopards a 43-25 lead. Flanagan hit a three to end the run and the Colonels would whittle the lead down to 12 after a Pina layup with 14:54 left.

Wentworth came out of a time out on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 19 and would lead by as many as 24 at the midway point of the half before cruising to the 14-point win.

In addition to his 23 points, Ganley also grabbed seven rebounds. Kizel and DeVaux each added 15 points and Therriault grabbed six rebounds.

Flanagan led all scorers with 26 while Pina added 18.
