PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team opened up its spring season this weekend at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational, played at the par 72, 6,522-yard Triggs Golf Course.
Wentworth, which was in seventh place among the 14 teams in the field after shooting a 333 on Friday, shot a 345 in Saturday's second round and slipped to eighth place with a 648. The Leopards finished a stroke behind Johnson & Wales. Middlebury had four of the top seven golfers, en route to a team score of 620.
Junior Eric Anderson (Abington, Mass.) shot a two-day total of 165 (83-82) to finish tied for 12th in the 70-player field. Senior John Romanelli (Acushnet, Mass.) finished tied for 28th after carding a 170 (85-85). Sophomore Robbie Wells Rogers (Colchester, Vt.) finished tied for 36th with a 172 (82-90), while sophomores Brandon Goold (Foxboro, Mass.) and Dante Christofori (Springfield, Mass.) shot identical scores of 84-89 for a total of 173, good for a tie for 39th place.
The Leopards are at the Hampton Inn Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
