Golf Finishes Third at Westfield State Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – In his first collegiate match, freshman Dan Howard (Westwood, Mass.) shot a 78 to help lead the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team to a third-place finish at the Westfield State Invitational, played at the par 71, 6,438-yard Tekoa Country Club.

The Leopards' third place finish was among nine teams (48 golfers) as the Black & Gold had a team score of 325. Rhode Island College won the event with a 296 with Westfield State's "blue" team finishing second with a 317. Nichols (337) finished fourth with Worcester State and the Westfield State "white" team tying for fifth with a 341.

Junior Zach Sousa (Middleboro, Mass.) finished tied for 12th with an 81, freshman Greg Carroll (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tied for 16th with an 82, and freshman Zach Downing (Clinton, Mass.) was tied for 24th with and 84. Senior John Doran (Weymouth, Mass.) also competed for Wentworth, shooting a 95 (39th place).

The Leopards will compete in the ECAC Division III New England Golf Championships this Saturday-Sunday at the Ranch Golf Course in Southwick, Mass.
