WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Dan Howard (Westwood, Mass.) carded his second straight round of 75 to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Westfield State Invitational.
The Leopards shot a team total of 324 which was five shots behind Worcester State which finished fourth with a 319 and eight shots better than Mass. College (332). Babson captured the team championship with a 292 after recording the top three individual scores. The 14-team event was played at the par 71, 6,315-yard Tekoa Country Club.
Howard, who tied for seventh in the 69-player field, shot an even par 36 over the front nine and his score of 75 was three shots off the individual winner. Senior Zach Sousa (Middleboro, Mass.) finished tied for 19th after shooting an 80. Sophomore Brian Bak (South Hadley, Mass.) finished tied for 27th after carding an 84 while junior Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) was tied for 34th with an 85.
Junior Austin Enroth (Dartmouth, Mass.) finished tied for 51st, finishing with a 90.
Wentworth will play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference qualifier on Tuesday. The seven schools in the CCC will gather at South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Mass., with the top four finishers advancing to the CCC Championships in April.
