Howard Earns Medalist Honors at CCC Qualifier

HINGHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Dan Howard (Westwood, Mass.) shot a career-low 71 to earn medalist honors at the 2016 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Qualifier Tournament, which was played at the par 72, 6,526-yard South Shore Country Club.

All seven league schools which sponsor men's golf competed at the qualifier with the top four teams earning a spot at the 2017 CCC Championship the weekend of April 29-30. Two-time defending champion Western New England earned the right to host the championship for a second straight year after shooting a 308. Joining the Golden Bears at championship weekend will be Endicott (316), Nichols (319), and the University of New England (325). The Nor'Easters edged the Leopards (326) for the fourth spot at the championship. Roger Williams (333) and tournament host Eastern Nazarene (432) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Howard finished first for the second time this season as he defeated Western New England's Matt Fontaine by four strokes. Fontaine led a trio of Golden Bears among the top five finishers.

Sophomore Brian Bak (South Hadley, Mass.) finished tied for 19th among the 34-player field with an 84. Senior Zach Sousa (Middleboro, Mass.) carded an 85 to finish 22nd, while junior Enrique Arrieche (Caracas, Venezuela) was tied for 23rd with an 86. Junior Paul Arsenault (Middleton, Mass.) finished 26th with an 87.

Wentworth will host Eastern Nazarene in a match play event on October 12.
