Hockey Takes Tournament Title

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Freshman forward Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) and senior forward Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) each tallied goals while junior netminder Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) earned the shutout with a 17-save performance as the Wentworth hockey team captured the 2011 IC Federal Credit Union Shootout title with a 2-0 win over host Fitchburg State. The tournament title was the first for the Leopards in the three-year history of the event. Wentworth had been defeated by the Falcons in each of the previous two title games.

Crowe, who was selected to the all-tournament team, scored a power play tally at 1:38 of the middle period, on an assist from senior forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) to give the Leopards the only goal they would need. Shade, who was named the tournament's most outstanding player, notched his fourth goal in three games just 30 ticks into the third period, assisted by junior defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) to provide an insurance goal.

Jarboe earned a spot on the all-tournament team as well as he made 10 of his 17 saves in the second period. The Black & Gold held a 29-17 shot advantage.

With the win, Wentworth improves to 2-1 and resumes ECAC Northeast play on Thursday at Western New England. That same night, Fitchburg State (1-2) is at Salem State.
