Sattler's Three-Point Night Helps Hockey Snap Losing Streak

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Chris Sattler (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way with a pair of goals and an assist, as the Wentworth Institute of Technology hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Western New England on Wednesday night in ECAC Northeast play at Walter Brown Arena.

With the win, Wentworth improves to 4-2-0 overall and 2-2 in ECACNE play while the Golden Bears fall to 1-4-1 (1-3-0 ECACNE).

The Golden Bears were first to get on the scoreboard early in the opening stanza with a power play goal. After winning an offensive zone face-off, sophomore Josh Twietmeyer (Everett, Wash.) passed the puck along the right side boards to senior forward Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, Ind.). Stroud fired a shot from the top of the point and senior forward Joe Budnick (Newinton, Conn.) put away the rebound to go up 1-0.

Wentworth tied the score at one with an unconventional goal from senior defenseman Ben Iwanowski (Dorval, Que.). While shorthanded, Sattler won the defensive zone face-off to senior Beau Burgau (New Ulm, Minn.). Burgau passed the puck to Iwanowski, who then cleared the puck into the Western New England zone. The puck took a few bounces before slipping between the legs of goalie Tim Carr (Pine Bush, N.Y.) to tie the score.

Halfway through the second period, the Leopards gained the lead with an even-strength goal from Sattler as senior Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.) picked up the puck on his own blue line and fed Sattler, who skated through several Golden Bear defensemen, and fired a wrist shot from the right circle to put Wentworth up 2-1. Sattler kept the offense going, scoring his second goal of the game and his fourth of the season only 27 seconds later. Freshman Cam McLennan (Calgary, Alta.) started the play and sent a pass to Domsodi, who dumped the puck into the right corner, where Sattler picked it up, skated through the right circle, and fired a wrist shot from the slot to make it 3-1.

The Leopards' fourth and final goal came at 7:10 in the third, with the Crowe brothers hooking up for the score. Sophomore Connor Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) battled for the puck behind the Western New England net, won the puck, and found his brother Kevin Crowe (Galloway, N.J.) in the right circle for a one-timer goal.

Junior Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) made 26 saves in the win while Carr made 14 in just over 31 minutes of action before freshman Scott Brown made eight.

Both teams continue conference play on Saturday afternoon, as Wentworth travels to Curry for a 4:40 p.m. puck drop, while Western New England plays at Salve Regina at 4:25 p.m.
