Hockey Shut Out by Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Sophomore Devin Albert (Reading, Mass.) recorded a natural hat trick in the third period and assisted on a first period goal to help the Colby College men's hockey team defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 7-0, on the second day of the Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off Classic.

Senior Jordan Nathan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made 26 saves to record the shutout as the Mules won their second straight contest to improve 2-3-1. The Leopards dropped their second straight and saw their record even at 4-4-1 on the season.

Colby received all the scoring it would need in the first period as junior Jonathan Sado (Niwot, Colo.) scored at the 12:09 mark from senior Robert McCormick (Laconia, N.H.) and freshman Dan Dupont (Wallingford, Conn.). Exactly one minute later the Mules doubled their lead on a sophomore E.J. Rauseo (Methuen, Mass.) marker, which was set up by freshman Mario Benicky (Zilinsky Kraj, Slovakia) and Albert.

The Mules tacked on two more goals in the second period as McCormick and sophomore Alex Walsh (Basking Ridge, N.J.) assisted on a freshman Michael Rudolf (Zug, Switzerland) goal at 2:48. Dupont and sophomore Scott Fenwick (Quispamsis, N.B.) set up senior Nate Morgan (Hamilton, Mass.) with 1:59 remaining in the frame.

In the third period, Albert scored an even-strength goal at 7:53, a power-play tally at 13:34, and a shorthanded marker at 15:13. Benicky and sophomore Geoff Sullivan (Topsfield, Mass.) had two assists in the period and Rauseo had one.

Junior Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) made 11 saves on 14 shots in 22:48 of work. Senior Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) made 14 goals on 17 shots in 35:59, while the seventh Colby goal was scored when the Leopards pulled Peck for a two-man advantage on a power play. The Mules had a 32-26 shot advantage.

Wentworth returns home next weekend to host Stonehill on Saturday and Suffolk on Sunday.
