Strong Second Period Pushes UMass Boston Past Hockey

BOSTON, Mass. – Seven different players scored goals as the University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey team broke open a 2-2 tie with three markers in the second period, en route to a 7-3 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action at Walter Brown Arena.

With the loss, the Leopards now stand at 6-7-2. The Beacons, who are named in both the USCHO.com (11th) and D3Hockey.com (12th) Polls are now 12-2-1.

UMass Boston notched the first goal two minutes into the game with an unassisted score from junior Connor McStravick (Philadelphia, Pa.). After a neutral zone face-off win, a Wentworth pass was intercepted by McStravick at the top of the slot. The junior fired a wrister bottom left side to put the Beacons up 1-0. Seven minutes later, Wentworth responded with a steal and goal of their own. Junior Mike Cox (Marlborough, Mass.) stole the puck in the right circle, fed it to Erik Andersson (Madison, N.J.), who then sent a wrist shot to the back of the net to even the score.

Under two minutes later, Wentworth struck again with a power-play goal from freshman Chris Sattler (East Longmeadow, Mass.) from the top of the point to put the Leopards up 2-1. Junior Kit Sitterley (Mooresville, N.C.) evened the score at two with a power-play goal with 6:48 remaining in the first. Senior Stephen Buco (North Providence, R.I.) sent a pass from the slot to Sitterley left of the net, which he scored on the open side.

After nine minutes of scoreless action, UMass Boston scored back-to-back goals to go up 4-2. Sophomore Albee Daley (Averill Park, N.Y.) scored from the slot and Buco scored on a two-on-two rush. Junior Matt Lemire (Townsend, Mass.) extended the lead to three goals, as his wrister from the top of the left circle made the score 5-2. Wentworth goalie Alex Peck (Kirkland, Que.) was replaced by Joel Miller (Calgary, Alta.) following the score.

Sattler struck again for the Leopards with 6:48 remaining in the second. The freshman forward took a senior Mike Domsodi (Kirkland, Que.) that went through the goalie crease and backhanded the puck into the net from the left side to make the score 5-3.

UMass Boston scored twice more in the third period, with junior Peter MacIntyre's (Norfolk, Mass.) goal in front of the net making the score 6-3, and Colin Larkin (Waterford, Mich.) finishing the empty netter to make the score 7-3.

Junior Zach Andrews (Coral Springs, Fla.) made 14 saves for the Beacons while Peck and Miller made 22 and 16 stops, respectively, for the Leopards who were outshot by a 45-17 margin.
