Curry Snaps Hockey's Win Streak

MILTON, Mass. – Senior Jarret Kup (Rosseau, Ont.) scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Curry College ice hockey team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 4-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Friday night at the Max Ulin Rink.

With the win the Colonels improve to 16-7-1 overall and 10-6-1 in CCC play while the Leopards see their four-game win streak snapped, falling to 9-12-3 (7-7-1).

Curry wasted little time getting on the board as the hosts scored 2:45 into the contest on a goal from freshman Matthew Henderson (Scarborough, Maine), which was set up by Kup and sophomore Anthony Trujillo (Toronto, Ont.).

The Colonels remained in the lead until the 10:36 mark of the period when senior Jake McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) scored off a rebound of a sophomore Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) shot. Curry took a 2-1 lead with 1:57 left in the period when Kup scored from junior Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland).

Curry took a two-goal lead at the 9:02 mark of the third period when Trujillo scored on the power play from senior Shane Tracy (Bow, N.H.) and senior Adam Valadao (Ajax, Ont.). However, 16 seconds later, Wentworth pulled back within a goal when sophomore CJ Grinnell (Burlington, Mass.) scored from classmate Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.).

With 1:34 remaining in the game, Kup set up freshman Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) for a power-play goal, giving Curry a two-goal cushion.

Freshman Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) made 18 saves to pick up the win. Senior Ryan Hubbard (West Roxbury, Mass.) turned aside 23 shots in the loss for Wentworth. The Colonels had a 27-20 shot advantage.

The two teams finish the back end of their home-and-home series when regular season play concludes tomorrow with a 3:00 pm faceoff at Allied Veterans Rink in Everett, Mass.
