Hockey Duo Earn CCC Weekly Awards

BOSTON, Mass. – After posting a 1-1 week against No. 14/15 Salve Regina, two members of the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team have been honored by the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Freshman forward Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.) was named the league's rookie of the week, while goalie Ryan Bonnvie (Falmouth, Maine) earned conference goaltender of the week honor. The duo earns honors for games played from January 14-21.

McKenelley recorded five points in the Black & Gold's pair of games, however, the final point of the weekend was the biggest as he scored the game-winning goal with 29 seconds remaining in regulation to earn a 4-3 win for the Leopards. In that game he also assisted on two goals, which came on the heels of scoring twice a night earlier in Wentworth's 5-2 loss to Salve Regina. Playing in all 18 games this season, McKenelley has scored six goals and seven assists for 13 points. Four of his goals have come on the power play, which ties him for the team lead. His 13 points are tops among his classmates and tied for third on the team.

Bonnvie improved to 3-0 on the season as he backboned the Leopards to the 4-3 win over the Seahawks. In that game he made 35 saves, 15 of which came in the third period which helped open the door for a three-goal, third-period comeback for Wentworth. On the season Bonnvie's three appearances have all been starts and, in addition to his 3-0 record, he has a goals against average of 3.67 and a save percentage of .899.

Wentworth is at No. 12/13 University of New England on Friday night.
