EVERETT, Mass. – Sophomore Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) scored with 6:06 remaining in regulation to snap a 1-all tie as the Curry College hockey team rallied to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Friday night.

With the win the Colonels improve to 12-6-3 overall and 7-4-2 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 7-10-4 (5-7-1).

Despite being outshot 13-5 in the opening period, Wentworth took a 1-0 lead at the 17:29 mark when junior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) tallied his team-high 12th goal of the year. Gorodetsky scored off assists from senior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) and freshman Jake McKenelley (Middleton, Mass.).

The Leopards held the lead until the 14:47 mark of the second period when sophomore Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) sent a pass to freshman Nick Magill-Diaz (Clawson, Mich.), who tucked a shot just under the crossbar to even the score. Shots were even in the second period at 15-all.

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the third period, including when Wentworth freshman Joey O'Leary (Boston, Mass.) hit the post with 13 minutes remaining. Just under seven minutes later, Kjellkvist broke the tie when he scored from junior Anthony Trujillo (Toronto, Ont.) and junior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.).

Wentworth continued to apply pressure and, with 1:13 left, pulled freshman Thomas Draper (Binghamton, N.Y.) for an extra attacker. The Leopards had a pair of shot attempts, including one by O'Leary which was saved by junior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.). With the puck in the Colonels' zone, senior Zachary White (Milford, Conn.) gained possession after a turnover and skated in for an empty-net goal to seal the win.

Ketola made 30 saves for Curry while Draper made 37 saves for the Black & Gold. The Colonels had a 40-31 shot advantage with 12 of those shots coming on five power plays.

The two teams complete their season series on Saturday afternoon in Milton.
