EVERETT, Mass. – Senior Ryan Burr (Toms River, N.J.) scored with 7:13 remaining in the third period to snap a 4-all tie and lift the 11th-ranked University of New England ice hockey team to a 5-4 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the 7:11 mark, UNE jumped out to a 1-0 lead, thanks to a power-play goal from senior Dimitris Jones (Seattle, Wash.). The lead stood until Wentworth senior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia) evened the score with 2:47 left in the stanza. Wentworth had a 14-9 shot advantage in the period with eight of the Leopards' 14 shots coming on three power play attempts.
- The two teams combined for four goals in the second period, with two coming in a span of 1:50. Freshman Carter Stephenson (West Vancouver, B.C.) tallied his first collegiate goal to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. Junior Jeff Eppright (Barrington, N.J.) knotted the score at 2-all when he scored at 3:07before sophomore Joey O'Leary (Boston, Mass.) put Wentworth on top 3-2 when he scored at 6:31, With 2:39 left in the period, junior Brendan Donohue (New Hope, Pa.) capped the scoring when he tied the game at 3-all.
- UNE took a 4-3 lead at 7:35 when freshman Collin Heinold (Charleston, S.C.) netted his first collegiate goals. However, just 94 seconds later, Stephenson ripped home a shot for his second goal of the game.
- A penalty called on the Leopards at 11:32 put the Nor'Easters on the power play and the visitors connected for their third power-play goal of the game when Burr put in a shot from the left circle.
- Sophomore Thomas Draper (Binghamton, N.Y.) was pulled for an extra attacker with 1:26 remaining. Wentworth had its one chance of the extra attacker time when Stephenson had a shot blocked by a Nor'Easter skater. A faceoff in the Wentworth zone with eight seconds left brought the teams back to even strength and, despite Wentworth winning the draw, the Black & Gold was unable to create a scoring chance.
- Sophomore Dante Flori (Watertown, Mass.) had two assists for Wentworth and also graded a plus-three along with Stephenson, who netted his first two collegiate markers, and Gorodetsky.
- Twelve different players scored at least one point for UNE. Burr had a goal and an assist while senior Ryan Bloom (Northville, Mich.) and freshman Jake Fuss (Fairfield, Conn.) each recorded two assists.
- Draper made 28 saves for Wentworth while junior Ben Churchfield (Newcastle, England) made 32 stops for the Nor'Easters. Wentworth had a 36-33 shot advantage. Twenty-one of the Leopards' 36 shots came on seven power play chances.
SERIES NOTES:
- Today marked 10th all-time meeting between the two programs with the University of New England running its series win streak to three and improving to 8-1-1 all-time against Wentworth.
