PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Endicott College ice hockey team used a pair of goals 2:35 apart in the third period to snap a 2-all tie and defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 4-2, in the third-place game of the 2020 W.B. Mason Winter Classic on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Endicott broke the ice at the 6:44 mark on a goal from freshman Elliott Clemens (Rochester, N.Y.). However, just 13 seconds later, senior Connor Beaudet (Buffalo, N.Y.) evened the score on a goal which was assisted by senior Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and freshman Sam Milnes (Middletown, R.I.).
  • The Gulls took a 2-1 lead at the 11:19 mark of the period on a goal from senor James Winkler (York, Maine). Beaudet tied the game at 2-all with 32 ticks left in the frame with his second marker of the game, a power-play goal, which was set up by junior Dante Flori (Watertown, Mass.) and senior Drew DiGeronimo (Fitchburg, Mass.).
  • Neither team scored in the second period and the Gulls had a 12-8 shot advantage. Both teams had one power-play attempt with Wentworth taking three shots on the man advantage and Endicott taking just one.
  • Graduate student Jason Kalinowski (Stamford, Conn.) put the Gulls ahead with a power-play goal at 11:48 before freshman Zach Mazur (Lancaster, N.Y.) tacked on an insurance goal at 14:23. Sophomore Ryan Bonnvie (Falmouth, Maine) was pulled for an extra attacker with 2:37 left, however, the Black & Gold were unable to get closer.
  • Sophomore Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) made 31 saves for Endicott while Bonnvie turned aside 25 shots for the Leopards

SERIES NOTES:

  • Today was the 11th meeting between the two programs with Endicott holdng a 9-2 series advantage. The two teams will play in their regularly scheduled Commonwealth Coast Conference series the weekend on February 14-15.
