HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth dominated the first period, outshooting Becker by a 24-5 margin and taking a 2-0 lead. Senior Adam Tracey (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) got the hosts on the board when he scored from classmates Nate Chase (Plainfield, Ill.) and Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, N.Y.) at the 11:50 mark. Freshman Guillaume Bose (San Jose, Calif.) doubled the lead when he scored from freshman Matt Ernster (Barrington, R.I.) and sophomore Tyler Lapshanski (Belvidere, N.J.) at 16:29.
  • Despite being outshot by a 21-5 margin in the second period, the Hawks scored twice in the frame – both coming off the stick of Wild – as he scored at 2:19 of the period and then tied the game with a power-play goal seven seconds into a major power play. Fourteen of Wentworth's 21 shots in the period came on seven power play attempts.
  • At the 2:52 mark of the third period, Becker took a 3-2 lead when junior Phil Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored on the power play. The lead lasted until the 5:04 mark when junior Jake Hallisey (Quincy, Mass.) scored from freshman Sam Milnes (Middletown, R.I.) and freshman Carter Stephenson (West Vancouver, B.C.).
  • The Leopards took a 4-3 lead with 3:34 left in regulation as junior Brendan Lloyd (Merrick, N.Y.) scored from Stephenson and senior Georgy Gorodetsky (Yekaterinburg, Russia). However, just 37 seconds later, Wild evened the score for the Hawks when he completed the hat trick. Wentworth played handed for the final 2:57, including being down two players for 59 seconds. The Leopards withstood a Becker attack which saw the Hawks put a shot on net during the 5x3 time and, while still down one player, the Black & Gold blocked a pair of shots and freshman Connor Carbo (Berlin, Vt.) made his seventh save of the period. Wentworth had a 15-9 shot advantage.
  • Wentworth had a slim, 5-4 shot advantage in overtime as both teams had chances to win the game. The Leopards' best chance came 96 seconds into the period when Gorodetsky had a chance right on the doorstep, however, senior Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif.) came up with the save.
  • With the game officially declared a tie for NCAA purposes, the two teams headed to a 3-on-3 overtime period where Wentworth had a 5-1 shot advantage but could not get one past Foster. Neither team scored on the first two rounds of the shootout before Wild converted his attempt in the top of the third round and Foster came up with a save in the bottom half.
  • Carbo made 19 saves while Foster turned aside 59. The Leopards had a 63-23 shot advantage on the evening and also won 57-of-95 face-offs. Senior Connor Beaudet (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the Leopards going 25-9 in the circle.
