Leopards Fall to Conference Leaders

BEVERLY, Mass. – Harry Holden (Duxbury, Mass.) scored four goals while Jack Curtis (Chelmsford, Mass.) added two and four assists to power Endicott past visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology, 20-2, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) men's lacrosse action.  Three other Gulls tallied multiple goals in the win, which moved the hosts to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in TCCC play.  Endicott has eclipsed the 20-goal mark in all three conference wins this season.

Chris Cotter (Lordship, Conn.), Brian Estes (Derry, N.H.), and Doug Bergner (Fairfield, Conn.) each scored twice to give Endicott its' third straight win.

Freshman attack Chris Guilherme (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore midfield Patrick Helfrich (North Andover, Mass.) each scored for the Leopards, who fell to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play.  Jeff Guilherme (Derry, N.H.) recorded both assists in the setback.

Endicott opened a 9-1 lead through the first 15 minutes of play on the strength of a 19-3 advantage in shots.  Senior Chris Gugino (West Hartford, Conn.) set the tone with a goal just 17 seconds into the game.  Gugino found Curtis for his first of the day three minutes later to give the hosts a quick 2-0 lead. 

Cotter made it 3-0 less than 30 seconds later before the Guilherme brothers connected to trim the deficit to two. 

The Gulls responded with a 6-0 run over the final eight-plus minutes of the quarter to build an eight point lead. 

Holden scored both goals of the second period, once at the 12:45 mark and again at 2:33, to give Endicott an 11-1 lead entering the break. 

Kevin Hannigan (Hanover, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season less than four minutes into the third but Jeff Guilherme found Helfrich for his seventh goal of the season two minutes later to make it 12-2.

The Blue and Green scored the final eight goals of the game, including a pair by Holden with a man advantage, en route to the win. 

Wentworth's Matt O'Connor (Duxbury, Mass.) and Jeff Bathalon (Maynard, Mass.) combined to make 17 saves in the loss.  Five different players saw action in net for Endicott and combined to make five saves.  Sophomore Mike Klein (Darien, Conn.) picked up the win to improve to 3-1 on the year.

The Gulls converted on five of six extra-man opportunities and outshot the Leopards 59-10. 

Wentworth takes a brief hiatus from the conference slate when it travels to Wheelock on Saturday (April 2) at noon.  Endicott, also in action on Saturday, continues TCCC play when it hosts Curry at 3:00 p.m.
