BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) dished out six assists, breaking the Wentworth single-season record for helpers, while three players had multiple-goal games as the Leopard men's lacrosse team set a program record for wins in a season with a 9-7 win over Wheaton in non-conference action on Sweeney Field.

The Lyons took a 1-0 lead when senior Will Cmpton (Deering, N.H.) scored with 6:59 left in the first quarter. Fifty-four seconds later the Leopards evened thescore on junior Steve Glover's (Marstons Mills, Mass.) first of the game.

After neither team would score for the next 13:54, Wheaton took a 2-1 lead on a man-down goal from senior Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn.). Wentworth responded by scoring the next three markers in a span of 56 seconds as Glover, sophomore Mike Cushera (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) all tallied. Doherty pulled the Lyons to within one at 4-3 with his goal with 3:52 left in the half – off a long clearing pass from junior Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I.), however, Cushera gave the hosts a two-goal edge with a goal coming with just over 2:00 left in the half.

A minute and 41 seconds into the third quarter, senior Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass.) made it a 5-4 game, but goals 30 apart from sophomore Dillon Lynch (Southwick, Mass.) and freshman Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 7-4 advantage.

Parent scored 31 seconds into the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 8-4 before Doherty scored a man-up goal with 11:40 left to make it an 8-5 contest. Glover's third of the game, coming with 7:51 left, pushed the lead back to four, but a pair of sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass.) markers pulled the Lyons within two.

Coakley's six assists give him 38 on the season, breaking the mark of 35 which was set by Jason Smith in 2001. Glover finished with three goals, Parent had two goals and an assist, and Cushera scored a pair of goals. Parlato, who won 12 of 19 at the face-off X, collected eight ground balls, while junior Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H.) made 13 saves and picked up four ground balls.

Doherty finished with three goals for Wheaton, while Hillman had two goals and an assist and McNamara had a goal and an assist. Bramhall, who made 19 saves, picked up five ground balls.

Wentworth held a 39-28 shot advantage and a 36-35 ground ball advantage. The two teams combined to go 6-for-22 on extra man opportunities as there were 23 penalties called for 21 minutes.

The Leopards' 10 wins breaks the mark of nine set in 1999 and matched 2004 as Wentworth improves to 10-2. Winners of four straight, the Black & Gold host Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest on Tuesday at 4:00. Wheaton sees its five-game win streak come to an end, falling to 5-5. The Lyons are at Babson for a Pilgrim League contest on Wednesday.
