Western New England Snaps Men's Lacrosse's Win Streak

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Adam Knapton (Canandaigua, N.Y.) scored four goals and assisted on two others to help the Western New England University men's lacrosse team to an 11-4 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Sweeney Field.

Knapton scored the Golden Bears' first two goals, coming 1:46 apart early in the first quarter. The Leopards made it a 2-1 game on a junior Steve Glover (Marstons Mills, Mass.) goal with 10:34 left before sophomore George Knapp (Glens Falls, N.Y.) extended the lead to 3-1 with his goal with 6:55 left in the quarter.

Western New England scored the game's lone goal in the second quarter when senior Ryan Marcus (South Hadley, Mass.) found the back of the net with 4:35 left.

Off the opening faceoff of the second half, freshman Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) won the draw and scored to make it 4-2.

The Golden Bears scored four straight goals to extend the lead to 8-2 as junior Owen Caruso (Port Washington, N.Y.), Knapton, Marcus, and junior Sean Lawton (Abington, Mass.) all scored.

Wentworth scored two goals in a 44-second span as junior Chris Kipp (Scarborough, Mass.) and freshman Nick Parent (Windham, Mass.) scored early in the fourth before Knapton, Knapp, and sophomore Jake Fishter (Florham Park, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring.

Knapp finished with two goals and an assist and Marcus added two goals in the win. Senior Corey Johnson (Maybrook, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls, junior Jack Liacos (Beverly, Mass.) caused three turnovers, and junior Nicky Donovan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won eight faceoffs. Sophomore Brandon Body (Newtown, Conn.) finished with 11 saves.

Four different players – Parent, Glover, Parlato, and Kipp – tallied for the Leopards. Parlato collected seven ground balls and won 10 faceoffs, while junior Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H.) made 14 saves.

Western New England finished with 38-22 shot advantage and a 38-37 ground ball advantage, while Wentworth held a 10-9 faceoff advantage.

With the win the Golden Bears – winners of three straight – improve to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in CCC play. Wentworth sees its four-game win streak come to an end, falling to 10-3 (3-3). Both teams are in action on Saturday as Western New England is at Curry and Wentworth is at Roger Williams.
