Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Kean

UNION, N.J. - Anthony Carpenter scored five goals and assisted on two others to help pace the Kean University men's lacrosse team to its 12th straight win with a 19-3 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

With the win the Cougars improve to 14-1 on the season while the Leopards drop their second straight to stand at 6-8.

Kean scored the game's first 12 goals and kept Wentworth off the board for the first 35:39. The Cougars held a 6-0 advantage after one quarter of play with Richard Cheifitz tallying three times.

In the second quarter, the Cougars added to their lead with four more tallies as Carpenter scored twice. Three of the four Kean goals were scored in a span of 2:42.

After the hosts scored two goals in a seven-second span early in the third quarter, sophomore Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) fed junior Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) to put the Black & Gold on the scoreboard. Two goals by Vincent Ferraro and one by Carpenter in a span of 2:05 pushed the lead to 15-1 before Coakley netted an unassisted marker with 2:53 left in the frame. The Cougars scored the final two of the third quarter – both coming with less than 10 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.) took a feed from Coakley early in the fourth quarter to round out Wentworth's scoring before Kean scored the game's final two goals.

Cheifitz had three goals and two assists, Vincent Ferraro had three goals and an assist, Matt Speciale had two goals and two assists, and John Marcelli had two goals and an assist. Jamar Thigpen won 13 of 18 face-offs and scooped up 10 ground balls. Dino Vitale made 14 saves and allowed a pair of goals in 42:35. Garrett VanDoren and Maxwell Fields made two and four saves, respectively.

Coakley factored into all three of Wentworth's goals, as he scored twice and added an assist to move into a tie for sixth place on Wentworth's all-time scoring list with 129 points. Sophomore Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) picked up four ground balls, while seniors Bryan Barker (Bow, N.H.) and Steve Glover (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and sophomore James Caldwell (New Milford, Conn.) had three each. Senior Jared Proulx (Nashua, N.H.) made four saves in just over 40 minutes of work before giving way to classmate Jeff Bathalon (Harvard, Mass.), who made five stops.
