BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) scored five goals and assisted on five others to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team pick up its first win of the season with a 16-6 win over Emmanuel in a non-conference contest played at Clemente Field.
With the win the Leopards improve to 1-6 while the Saints fall to 1-6. The win snaps an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Wentworth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by junior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) and Paradis before the Saints responded with back-to-back scores by seniors Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) and Justin Kelly (Collegeville, Pa.) to make it 2-2 with 1:56 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Leopards opened the game up scoring the next six goals to take control of the action with an 8-2 cushion at the 8:40 mark in the third quarter following a man-up score by sophomore Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.).
Senior Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) set up senior Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.) for a goal with 28 tickets left in the third to cut Wentworth's lead in half at 10-5, but the Leopards powered out six consecutive goals through the final 12 minutes of the fourth to take the 16-6 win.
The 10 points for Paradis ranks tied for sixth most in a single-game by a Wentworth player. Junior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) scored three goals and assisted on two others for a five-point day. Sophomore Scott Boucher (Salisbury, N.H.) earned the win for Wentworth with a six-save performance in the first half, while Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) made three saves in the second half.
Paradis led the Black & Gold with five nets and five helpers, while junior Mike Coackley (Flemington, N.J.) followed up with three goals and two assists. Senior Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) scooped up seven ground balls.
Freshman Cole Scadden (San Diego, Calif.) blocked 12 shots through 51:19 as sophomore Austin Rosenberg (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) saved three shots. Curtis led the Saints with two goals, while Rogers scooped up three ground balls.
Wentworth controlled almost every aspect of the game, outshooting Emmanuel 47-31, winning 15 of 25 faceoffs, and owning a 27-21 advantage in groundballs. Senior Tim Parlato scooped up seven ground balls and freshman Peter Andersson (Madison, N.J.) won 15 of 24 at the X.
The Leopards open Commonwealth Coast Conference play Tuesday night against Roger Williams while Emmanuel is also in action on Tuesday at Connecticut College.
