Roger Williams Pulls Away From Men's Lacrosse

BOSTON, Mass – Senior Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) scored three goals and assisted on two others to help the Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team extend its winning streak to five games as the Hawks pulled away from Wentworth Institute of Technology, 11-6, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Sweeney Field.

With the win Roger Williams improves to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in CCC play while the Leopards fall to 1-7 overall and dropped their league opener.

Wentworth drew first blood on a freshman Sean Brennan (Stony Point, N.Y.) marker at 9:29, however Roger Williams responded with a goals from freshman Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.), Gagnon, and junior Mark Cammorata (Redding, Conn.) to lead 3-1 after one.

The Hawks scored the first three goals of the second quarter – all coming in a 37-second span – as Bova, senior Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.), and Gagnon tallied before senior Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) ended the run with a goal 11:45. Junior AJ Core (Syosett, N.Y.) put the visitors ahead 7-2 at the half after his goal with 6:53 left.

Freshman Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) and Paradis scored within 27 seconds of each other to make it a 7-4 game and junior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) made it 7-5 with his man-up goal coming with 35 second left in the third quarter.

Senior Eric Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) made it 8-5 1:12 into the final stanza before freshman Cameron Criniti (Berlin, Conn.) would make it a one-goal game 2:18 later. Bova and Gagnon scored 36 seconds apart to make it 10-6 and senior Cam Donnelly (Medfield, Mass.) ended the scoring with his goal with 3:49 left.

Bova finished with three goals while Siefert and Donnelly each had a goal and an assist and senior Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine) had a pair of helpers. Senior Dan Arket (Poughquag, N.Y.) scooped up 10 ground balls and was 11-of-20 at the X while senior Jon Lazar (Greenwich, Conn.) had seven ground balls.

Paradis had a pair of goals and senior Tim Parlato (Needham, Mass.) had two assists. Parlato also had four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Brennan had six ground balls and senior James Caldwell (New Milford, Conn.) caused three turnovers.

Junior Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) made 10 saves and scooped up four ground balls in the win. Sophomore Scott Boucher (Salisbury, N.H.) was tagged with the loss after making six saves in the first half while classmate Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) made nine stops in the second half. Roger Williams had a 41-38 shot advantage and a 41-37 edge in ground balls.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Roger Williams hosts the University of New England and Wentworth travels to Western New England.
