Men's Lacrosse Earns Number Six Seed in CCC Tournament

BOSTON, Mass. – For the fourth straight year and 15th time since the Commonwealth Coast Conference began sponsoring men's lacrosse in 1998, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team has earned a berth in the CCC Tournament, which begins on Saturday with a pair of first-round contests. The sixth-seeded Leopards (4-12, 2-6 CCC) will travel to third-seeded Roger Williams (10-7, 6-2) in one of the opening-round contests at 6:00 p.m.

Despite dropping its regular-season finale, 12-11 (ot), at Nichols on Tuesday night, Wentworth's 2-6 in-league record was tied for sixth with Curry, however the Leopards' 11-6 win over the Colonels on April 9 gave the Black & Gold the head-to-head tiebreaker to clinch the final playoff spot.

The Winner of the Wentworth/Roger Williams tilt will travel to second-seeded Endicott (8-8, 7-1) for a semifinal round game on Wednesday, May 4, at a time to be announced. Saturday's other first-round contest features fifth-seeded Salve Regina (11-6, 4-4) traveling to fourth-seeded University of New England (10-7, 5-3) at 3:00 p.m. The winner of that game will face No. 14 Western New England, which earned the number one seed by virtue of its 8-0 conference record (13-3 overall), in the other semifinal on Wednesday. The two semifinal winners will meet to decide the 2016 CCC Champion on Saturday, May 7, at the highest remaining seed. The conference champion will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Saturday night marks the 30th all-time meeting between the two programs with Roger Williams, winners of the last 15 series meetings, holding a 26-4 advantage. The Hawks took the regular-season meeting, 11-6, on March 29. In post-season play, this will be the 10th time the schools will meet in the conference tournament with Roger Williams holding an 8-1 advantage. The two teams have met in the first round in each of the last two seasons and it's the third time in the last four seasons they will meet in the opening round. All-time Wentworth is 0-15 in Bristol, R.I.
