Men's Lacrosse Picks up Win Over Wabash

DEMOREST, Ga. – Junior Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.) scored three goals and assisted on a fourth to help pace the Wentworth Institute of technology men's lacrosse team to a 13-10 victory over Wabash in a non-conference game played at Piedmont College.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-0 on the season while the Little Giants fall to 2-2.

Butler gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead with a goal at 3:47 of the quarter. Wabash took the lead on a pair of freshman Andrew Weiland (Carmel, Ind.) goals 77 seconds apart. Sophomore Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) and senior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) scored to put the Leopards ahead 3-2 and started a 7-1 run which would give the Black & Gold an 8-3 lead with 12:50 left in the half. Senior Sean Farmer (Billerica, Mass.) had two goals during the run.

Wabash scored two of the next three goals to cut the lead to 9-5, however sophomore Zach Tomaszek (Milford, Conn.) countered with a goal with 15 seconds left in the half to make it 10-5 in favor of Wentworth at the break.

Neither team was able to generate any offense for nearly the first two thirds of the third quarter before Butler ended the drought with a goal with 5:14 left. The Little Giants countered with goals from freshman Jacob Taylor (Wheaton, Ill.) and sophomore Steven Stark (Indianapolis, Ind.) to trim the lead to 11-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Butler and sophomore Sean Brennan (Stony Point, N.Y.) opened the fourth quarter scoring to extend the lead to 13-7. Wabash scored the final three goas of the game – with the last coming with 2:37 remaining – but could get no closer.

Framer finished with two goals and one assist, Tomaszek had a pair of goals, and freshman Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists. Sophomore Peter Andersson (Madison, N.J.) won 16-of-26 at the X and he, along with Farmer, scooped up five ground balls.

Junior Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) made eight saves in the win. Wentworth had a 51-9 shot advantage and was 21-of-22 on clearing attempts. Wabash has a slight edge (26-25) in ground balls.

Wentworth is at Piedmont on Thursday night.
