Men's Lacrosse Doubles up Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – Freshman Dolan McCarthy (Hyde Park, Mass.) had four points on three goals and an assist to help pace the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team to an 8-4 win over Piedmont in a non-conference contest Thursday night.

With the win the Leopards remain undefeated, improving to 3-0 on the season while the Lions fall to 3-4.

Wentworth scored all four goals in the opening frame with junior Emery Green (Swampscott, Mass.), McCarthy, freshman Kyle Doner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and sophomore Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) finding the back of the net.

Piedmont scored the first two goals of the second quarter to slice the lad in half, however McCarthy and Doner scored four minutes apart to give the Black & Gold a 6-2 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw the Lions outscore the Leopards 2-1 with McCarthy scoring Wentworth's goal. A defensively played fourth quarter yielded just one goal, which came off the stick of junior Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.).

Doner finished with a pair of goals while senior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) had three assists.

Junior Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) made 10 saves in the win. Sophomore Peter Andersson (Madison, N.J.) won 9-of-16 at the X and he and classmate Sean Brennan (Stony Point, N.Y.) had four ground balls apiece. McCarthy had both of the Leopards' caused turnovers.

Wentworth had a 38-22 shot advantage while Piedmont had the edge in ground balls, 23-21.

The Leopards are at MIT on Tuesday.
