Men's Lacrosse Doubled up in Season Finale

BRISTOL, R.I. – Senior AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.) scored six points on four goals and two assists as the Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 18-9, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon.

With the win the Hawks improve to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in CCC play while the Leopards' season ends with a 6-10 overall record and a 1-7 mark in league play. The six victories surpass last year's final tally of four wins.

Sophomore Chris Quinn (Newton, Mass.) put Wentworth ahead 2-0 when he scored two goals in a 20-second span. However, his goal with 13:12 remaining would be the last one the Leopards would score until 55 seconds into the third quarter as Roger Williams used a 9-0 run to take a 9-2 lead at the half. During the run freshman Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) scored three times in a span of 40 seconds while senior Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) factored in the final three goals of the first quarter, scoring twice and assisting on a third.

Leopard sophomore Matt Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) ended the drought with a goal early in the third quarter, but Roger Williams responded with six of the next seven goals to close out the quarter. Core had three goals and an assist during that stretch.

Roger Williams upped its lead to 17-4 with a pair of goals in a span of just under two minutes. Wentworth Junior Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.) and Hawk junior Eddie Hill (Somers, Conn.) traded goals 2:10 apart before the Leopards closed out the game with the final four goals coming from senior Sean Farmer (Billerica, Mass.), sophomore Jack Zaylor (Hanover, Mass.), senior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.), and Butler.

In addition to Core, Marzec finished with three goals and an assist and Cammarota had two goals and three assists. Sophomore Shawn Errasti (Duxbury, Mass.) scooped up eight ground balls and caused three turnovers for the Hawks.

Butler had three goals for Wentworth while Quinn had a pair of goals and Coakley had a goal and two assists. Quinn, Larsen, and sophomore Spencer Allen (New Boston, N.H.) each picked up four ground balls.

Freshman Dolan Jones (Levittown, N.Y.) made four saves in just over 40 minutes while senior Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.) made a pair of saves in just under 20 minutes. Wentworth junior Adam Dufault (Lexington, mass.) had six saves.

Roger Williams had a 37-35 shot advantage and a 41-35 ground ball edge. The Hawks also won the battle at the X, 18-12.
