Rowing Fares Well in Inaugural Varsity Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. – In its inaugural regatta as a varsity program, the Wentworth rowing team fared well at the 34th Textile River Regatta, with two of the Leopards' seven crews earning medals.

Wentworth had four entries in the men's 2 boat race and posted finishes of 15th, 20th, 21st, and tied for 24th out of 25 boats. Seniors Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.) were clocked at 25:11.688 to finish 15th; sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass.) and junior Nicholas Conklin (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished 20th with a time of 26:46.755; freshman Tim Lefebvre (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished 21st with a time of 27:38.41; and sophomores Andrew Metropolis (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.) finished tied for 24th after crossing the line with a time of 32:32.694.

The men's lightweight four boat earned a silver medal as the Leopards finished second among the three boats. Junior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.) led a boat of Barrett, senior Logen Johnson (Kingston, N.H.), Peterson, and Conklin to a time of 23:49.86, which was 44 seconds behind the winning crew from Bowdoin College.

In the men's open four race, the Black & Gold entered two boats. Junior coxswain Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.) led a boat of freshman Austin Drake (Chelmsford, Mass.), Schwarzkopf, Andrews, and Lefebvre to a bronze medal, finishing third among 19 boats with a time of 22:29.516. Senior coxswain Emily Resetarits (South Windsor, Conn.) led her boat of sophomores Liam Holohan (Merrimack, N.H.) and Griffin Kirby (Providence, R.I.) and junior Tim Walters (Raynham, Mass.) and sophomore Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.) to a 14th place finish with a time of 25:50.513.

Wentworth travels to the Head of the Housatonic Regatta on Saturday, October 12.
