Rowing Competes at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta

DERBY, Conn. – With six crews entered in the 2013 Head of the Housatonic Regatta, the Wentworth rowing team had another strong showing, including picking up a first place finish in the men's collegiate fours (non-IRA) event.

The Leopards entered one boat in a 2 boat race, which originally had three entrants in it. However, the two other boats scheduled to participate were scratched, leaving sophomores Andrew Metropolis (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Griffin Kirby (Providence, R.I.) as the lone entrant. The duo finished with a time of 25:05.

In the men's novice eight race, the Leopard crew of sophomore coxswain Lizzy Astle (Westminster, Mass.), sophomore Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), sophomore Donte Cook (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), freshman Austin Drake (Chelmsford, Mass.), freshman Ty Castle (Oquossoc, Maine), sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass.), freshman Marc McCann (Cumberland, R.I.), and freshman Dan Bailey (Franklin, Mass.) finished ninth in the 11-boat field with a time of 18:42.9.

Junior Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.) was the coxswain on the men's collegiate four boat (non-IRA) that placed first among 12 boats with a time of 16:15.7. Zak's crew consisted of senior Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.), junior Tim Walters (Raynham, Mass.), senior Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.), and freshman Tim Lefebvre (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Wentworth entered two other crews into this race as well with junior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.) leading a boat of sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Nicholas Conklin (Stony Point, N.Y.), Barrett, and senior Logen Johnson (Kingston, N.H.) to an eighth-place finish with a time of 17:31. Senior coxswain Emily Resetarits (South Windsor, Conn.) and her crew of Drake and sophomores Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.), Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.), and Liam Holohan (Merrimack, N.H.) finished 12th with a time of 18:50.

In the men's novice four event, the Leopards placed third in the three-boat field with a time of 23:32.7. Astle's crew consisted of Baker, Cook, McCarthy, and McCann.

The Leopards will close out the fall portion of its schedule next weekend at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta.
