BOSTON, Mass. – The men's rowing team concluded its 2013 fall season by participating in the Head of the Charles Regatta, the world's largest annual two-day rowing event, on Saturday and Sunday. Wentworth, in its inaugural varsity season, fared well on both days, which included a fourth-place medal in the Men's Collegiate Fours.
On Saturday, The Leopards' entry in the Club Fours finished 47th in a field of 50 boats with a time of 20:09.142. That boat was led by senior coxswain Emily Resetarits (South, Windsor, Conn.) and consisted of freshman Austin Drake (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomores Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.), Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.), and Liam Holohan (Merrimack, N.H.)
Wentworth's entry into the Collegiate Fours placed fourth in a field of 38 boats with a time of 16:40.646 to take home the school's first-ever medal. Junior coxswain Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.) was joined by senior Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.), junior Tim Walters (Raynham, Mass.), senior Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.), and freshman Tim Lefebvre (Shrewsbury, Mass.).
Sunday's action saw the Leopards place 15th (out of 17) in the Lightweight Fours with a time of 19:19.057. Junior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.) led a boat of senior Logen Johnson (Kingston, N.H.), sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass., junior Nicholas Conklin (Stony Point, N.Y.), and sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.).
The Leopards student-athletes were not the only ones racing as two members of the coaching staff competed on Saturday. Head coach Katie Lane was the coxswain of the UVM Crew Alumni Association boat in the Men's Alumni Eight race, helping the boat to a 36th place finish (out of 42) with a time of 16:57.84, while assistant coach Katie Donnelly was the coxswain of the Sammanish Rowing Association's entry in the Master Senior Women's Four race, where she helped lead the boat to a fifth place finish (out of 35) with a time of 20:11.139.
