Rowing Completes Day One at Knecht Cup

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team completed the first day of races at the 2014 Knecht Cup and two of the Leopard crews will be rowing in final events on Sunday.

The men's freshman/novice 4+ crew of sophomore coxswain Siobhan Galloway (Granby, Mass.), freshman Ty Castle (Oquossoc, Maine), sophomore Donte Cook (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), and freshman Matt Pusateri (West Boylston, Mass.) finished third in its heat with a time of 8:44.77 and earned a spot in the semifinals. In the semifinal race, the crew finished sixth with a time of 8:20.79.

Wentworth's men's lightweight 4+ boat, consisting of sophomore Coxswain Lizzy Astle (Westminster, Mass.), sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Aaron Gilbert (China, Maine), senior Dave Patch (Topsfield, Mass.), and senior Zach Kemmer (Beverly, Mass.) finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:22.78 and did not advance.

The men's varsity 4+ crew, consisting of junior coxswain Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.), senior Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.), senior Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.), sophomore Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.), and junior Mike Drollette (Windham, N.H.) had an exceptional day, winning their heat with a time of 7:03.75 and advancing to Sunday's final race.

Wentworth's second entry into the men's varsity 4+ will race in Sunday's final with a crew consisting of senior coxswain Emily Resetarits (South Windsor, Conn.), sophomore Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), sophomore Tucker Barrett (Harvard, Mass.), sophomore Liam Holohan (Merrimack, N.H.), and sophomore Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.).
