Rowing Competes at Greater Boston Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team competed in the Second Annual Greater Boston Invitational, which took place on the Merrimack River on Saturday.

Wentworth's entry into the men's pairs finished first among five boats as seniors Ryan Andrews (Harvard, Mass.) and Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.) posted a time of 4:15.89.

The men's four lightweight boat, which consisted of senior coxswain Emily Resetartis (South Windsor, Conn.), sophomore Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior David Patch (Topsfield, Mass.), senior Aaron Gilbert (China, Maine), and senior Zack Kemmer (Beverly, Mass.) finished first among three boats with a time of 5:25.66.

In the men's four novice race, sophomore coxswain Siobhan Galloway (Granby, Mass.), sophomore Donte Cook (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Ty Castle (Oquossoc, Maine), freshman Matt Pusateri (West Boylston, Mass.), and freshman Dan Bailey (Franklin, Mass.) finished third in its heat with a time of 5:51.89 to advance to the finals. In the finals, their time of 6:02.81 placed them sixth.

The first boat in the varsity fours entry of junior coxswain Mark Zak (Longmeadow, Mass.), Andrews, Schwarzkopf, sophomore Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.), and senior Mike Drollette (Windham, N.H.) finished first in its heat of four boats with a time of 4:40.92. In the final race, the crew finished second with a time of 5:04.60, which was just 1.63 seconds behind Bowdoin.

The second boat in the varsity fours, which was raced in the junior varsity race, consisted of sophomore coxswain Lizzy Astle (Westminster, Mass.), freshman Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), sophomore Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), sophomore Liam Holohan (Merrimack, N.H.), and sophomore Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.). Wentworth finished sixth with a time of 6:10.01.

Wentworth races at Tufts next Saturday.
