LOWELL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team opened the 2014-2015 season by racing in the Textile River Regatta on Sunday.
Wentworth had four entrants in the regatta; two in the men's open two boat race and two in the men's open four boat race and had an eighth-place finish from one of the fur boats.
In the men's open two boat race, juniors Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.) finished 22nd out of 31 with a time of 24:20, which was just two seconds behind the University of New Hampshire, while junior Fabian Torres (Danvers, Mass.) and sophomore Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.) finished 28th with a time of 26:52.
The four boat consisting of senior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.), Peterson, senior Alex Schwarzkopf (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Barrett, and freshman Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.) finished eighth out of 25 with a time of 22:11.348 as the Leopards were edged by Clark's time of 22:11.246. Wentworth's second four boat entry, led by freshman coxswain Tyler Springhetti (South Easton, Mass.) and consisting of sophomore Matt Pusateri (West Boylston, Mass.), sophomore Frank McCarthy (South Hamilton, Mass.), freshman Tanner McFarland (Sanford, Maine), and freshman Chase Manning (Franklin, Mass.) finished 23rd with a time of 25:57.
Wentworth will compete in the Head of the Housatonic Regatta next Saturday.
