Rowing Competes at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's rowing team competed at the 2015 New England Rowing Championships and had one boat advance to the grand finals while another finished first in the petite finals. The regatta was held on Lake Quinsigamond and featured competitors from 32 institutions.

Wentworth's varsity four boat, consisting of senior coxswain Isabella Grassetti (Monson, Mass.), senior Tim Walters (Raynham, Mass.), and juniors Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.), Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.) placed third in its heat with a time of 7:09.992. The third-place finish put Wentworth in the grand final where the Leopards finished sixth with a time of 7:11.110.

Freshman Emer Creighton (West Roxbury, Mass.) was the coxswain on the Leopards' second varsity four boat, which was rowed by freshman Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.), senior Nicholas Conklin (Stony Point, N.Y.), sophomore Jake Rosser (Ivyland, Pa.), and freshman Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.) and finished sixth in its heat with a time of 7:43.649. Wentworth advanced to the petite final and notched a third-place finish with a time of 7:39.685.

The Leopards' novice four boat would finish fourth in its heat with a time of 8:07.983 and freshman coxswain Tyler Springhetti (South Easton, Mass.) and freshmen Tanner McFarland (Sanford, Maine) and Chase Manning (Franklin, Mass.) as well as senior Lucas Whitelaw (Waterford, Conn.), and sophomore Michael Pierce (Chelsea, Mass.) rowed their way to a first-place finish in the petite final with a time of 8:05.319, besting the University of Massachusetts by over three seconds.

Wentworth wraps up the 2014-15 campaign next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
