Strong Showing by Rowing at UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team enjoyed a successful Saturday with a first-place finish and a pair of second-place finishes at the UMass Lowell Invitational, which was held on the Merrimack River.

The men's varsity four boat, which consisted of sophomore Emer Creighton (West Roxbury, Mass.), junior Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), senior Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.), and sophomore Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.) placed first in a field of seven boats with a time of 8:01.4, defeating Bowdoin's time of 8:01.9.

Wentworth's second varsity four boat lost in a two-boat race to Bowdon. Sophomore coxswain Lyn Carswell (Newark, N.J.), sophomore Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.), sophomore Kyle Rowe (Eliot, Maine), freshman TJ Dion, and junior Michael Pierce (Chelsea, Mass.) crossed the line in a time of 8:27.2, which was behind the Polar Bears' 7:52.7.

In the men's novice four race, the Leopards placed second in a field of seven boats. Freshman coxswain Orion Hansen (Orlando, Fla.), freshman Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), sophomore Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and sophomore Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) finished with a time of 8:00.4, which was second behind Bowdoin's A boat entry which finished with a time of 7:40.4.

Wentworth returns to the water next Sunday (April 24) at the Worcester Regatta.
