Rowing Races at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Paced by a first-place finish in the Petite Final by the Second Varsity Four boat, the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team competed at the 2016 New England Rowing Championships, which were held on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday.

Wentworth's entry into the Second Men's Varsity Four race saw freshman coxswain Kristian Hosker (Nahant, Mass.), sophomore Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.), freshman Kyle Rowe (Eliot, Maine), junior Michael Pierce (Chelsea, Mass.), and freshman TJ Dion (Lincoln, R.I.) place fourth in their heat with a time of 7:41.75. This time was good enough to advance the Leopards to the Petite Final where the Black & Gold cruised to first-place finish, crossing the line in a time of 7:47.523. This time was over 1:13 faster than Mass. Maritime's.

The Leopards' entry into the Men's Varsity Four consisted of sophomore coxswain Emer Creighton (West Roxbury, Mass.), junior Tim Baker (Ashburnham, Mass.), senior Ben Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Tucker Barrett (Leominster, Mass.), and sophomore Matthew West (Hingham, Mass.). In Wentworth's heat, the crew crossed the line in a time of 7:08.263, which placed the Leopards third and advanced them to the grand final where a fifth-place finish was achieved in a time of 7:19.935.

In the Men's Novice Four race, freshman Orion Hansen (Orlando, Fla.) was the coxswain of a boat consisting of freshman Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), sophomore Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and sophomore Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:39.322.

Wentworth will conclude its season the weekend of May 13-15 at the Dad Vail Regatta.
