WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule by competing against Bowdoin, Connecticut College, and Clark. The event, which was rescheduled to today after Saturday's storm, was held on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Leopards' first entry in the varsity four race finished second out of four with a time of 7:06.0, which was behind Bowdoin's time of 6:50.8 and ahead of Clark (7:15.9) and Connecticut College (7:33.1). Freshman Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) was the coxswain with a crew consisting of sophomore Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), junior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.), junior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and junior Matt West (Hingham, Mass.).
In the second varsity four race, Wentworth was fourth with a time of 7:46.4, behind a pair of Bowdoin boats which finished in times of 7:07.2 and 7:15.6 and Connecticut College which finished with a time of 7:36.1. Sophomore Leslie Vongphakdy (Riverside, R.I.) was the coxswain with a crew consisting of junior Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), sophomore Orion Hansen (Tampa, Fla.), junior Brian Downey (Merrick, N.Y.), and sophomore TJ Dion (Lincoln, R.I.).
Two of the three boats in the novice four race belonged to the Leopards. Freshman coxswain Emily Seslar (Plymouth, Mass.) along with freshman Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), freshman Sepehr Khansalar, freshman James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), and freshman Bohdan Ruehle (Kinnelon, N.J.) finished with a time of 7:15.7 which was behind Bowdoin's time of 7:12.5. Sophomore coxswain Kristian Hosker (Nahant, Mass.) led a crew of sophomore Travis Worrick (Plymouth, Mass.), junior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), freshman Tyler Stowe (Attleboro, Mass.), and freshman Liam Jacques (Medford, Mass.) which finished with a time 7:28.1.
Wentworth will next compete at the Knecht Cup next weekend in West Windsor, N.J.
