Rowing Places Second Twice at River Hawk Challenge

LOWELL, Mass. – A pair of second-place finishes highlighted a successful day on the water for the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team as the Leopards competed in the River Hawk Challenge.

In the varsity four race, freshman coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.), sophomore Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), junior Alec Boyle (Harvard, Mass.), junior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and junior Matt West (Hingham, Mass.) won their heat with a time of 7:06.6, beating Endicott (7:24.0), Gordon (7:26.6), and Brandeis (8:08.2). In the finals the Leopards finished with a time of 7:22.1, which was second to Bowdoin's 7:08.0, and defeated Endicott (7:57.8) and the University of New England (8:17.6).

Wentworth's other competition on the day occurred in the novice eight race. Freshman coxswain Emily Seslar (Plymouth, Mass.), freshman Sepehr Khansalar (Cambridge, Mass.), freshman Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), freshman James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), junior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), freshman Bohdan Ruehle (Kinnellon, N.J.), freshman Liam Jacques (Medford, Mass.), freshman Tyler Stowe (Attleboro, Mass.), and sophomore Conall Sullivan (Jacksonville, Vt.) placed second in the four-boat race. The Leopards, who finished with a time of 6:16.1 were defeated by UMass Lowell (6:09.9) while defeating Bowdoin (6:24.0), and Middlebury (6:34.3).

The Leopards will compete at the New England Rowing Championships on Saturday, May 6.
