Rowing Kicks Off Season at Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team kicked off the 2017-2018 season by racing at the Textile River Regatta.

The Leopards entered three boats in the season-opening regatta; two in the Open 4+ race and one in the Collegiate Novice 4+ race.

In the Open 4+ race, Wentworth's "A" boat consisting of freshman coxswain John Inman (North Grafton, Mass.) and sophomore John Parker (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.), senior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), and sophomore Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.) finished seventh out 17 boats with a time of 22:06.189.

The Leopards' "B" boat consisting of sophomore coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), senior Brian Downey (Merrick, N.Y.), sophomore James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), and senior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) finished 13th with a time of 23:30.840.

Wentworth's entry into the Collegiate Novice 4+ race saw freshman coxswain Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) and freshman Ben Coleman (Avon, Conn.), freshman Zachary Gaudet (Dracut, Mass.), freshman Erik Schaeffer (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and freshman Noor Hassan (Lexington, Mass.) finished second among five boats with a time of 25:04.659.

Wentworth next competes on Saturday at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta.
