Rowing Competes at Head of the Housatonic Regatta

SHELTON, Conn. – Four boats represented the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team at the 2017 Head of the Housatonic Regatta on Saturday with the Novice Four boat placing third.

For the first time this season the Leopards had an entry in the Men's Collegiate Novice 8+ race and Wentworth finished eighth in a nine-boat race. Junior coxswain Orion Hansen (Tampa, Florida) and freshman Alexis Umana (Revere, Mass.), freshman Zach Moskovitz (Burlington, N.J.), junior Simeon Pickles (Surrey, United Kingdom), freshman Tyler Coles (Fairfield, Conn.), freshman Noor Hassan (Lexington, Mass.), freshman Erik Schaeffer (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Zachary Gaudet (Dracut, Mass.), and freshman Ben Coleman (Avon, Conn.) finished with a time of 16:34.4.

In the Men's Collegiate Novice 4+ race, freshman coxswain Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) along with Hassan, Schaeffer, Gaudet, and Coleman posted their third-place finish after crossing the line in a time of 17:12.4.

The Men's Collegiate 4+ (Non IRA) race saw Wentworth enter two boats. Freshman coxswain John Inman (North Grafton, Mass.) along with sophomore Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore John Parker (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.), and junior Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.) placed 10th in the 15-boat field with a time of 15:27.5. Right behind them with an 11th-place finish with a time of 15:31.0 was the boat consisting of sophomore coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.), senior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), sophomore James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), senior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), and senior Brian Downey (Merrick, N.Y.).

Wentworth competes at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on October 14.
