Novice Eight Boat Paces Rowing at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team received a first-place finish from the Novice Eight boat as the Leopards competed at the 2017 Quinsigamond Snake Regatta, which was held Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

Junior coxswain Orion Hansen (Tampa, Fla.) led a boat consisting of freshman Ben Coleman (Avon, Conn.), freshman Zachary Gaudet (Dracut, Mass.), freshman Erik Schaeffer (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Noor Hassan (Lexington, Mass.), freshman Matthew Schmida (Sturbridge, Mass.), junior Simeon Pickles (Surrey, United Kingdom), freshman Angelo Lamoureux (Southbridge, Mass.), and freshman Tyler Coles (Fairfield, Conn.) to the first-place finish as the Black & Gold finished the seven-boat race with a time of 15:32.238 which was nearly 27 seconds faster than UMass Lowell.

In the Varsity Four race, Wentworth had a pair of entries. Freshman coxswain John Inman (North Grafton, Mass.) led a boat consisting of sophomore John Parker (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Jacob L'Heureux (Saco, Maine), sophomore Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.), and senior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.) to a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in the 24-boat race with a time of 15:00.900.

Sophomore coxswain Sara Anderson's (Manchester, N.H.) boat, which consisted of junior Karlis Kaza (Wayland, Mass.), senior Brian Downey (Merrick, N.Y.), sophomore James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), and senior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) finished 13th with a time of 15:45.436

The Leopards will compete at the Head of the Charles Regatta next weekend.
