Rowing Competes at the River Hawk Challenge

LOWELL, Mass. – In a tune up for the New England Rowing Championships coming up in two weeks, the Wentworth institute of Technology rowing team took home four top-three finishes as the Leopards competed at the River Hawk Challenge.

The Varsity Four boat, led by freshman coxswain John Inman (North Grafton, Mass.), sophomore John Parker (Fairport, N.Y.), senior Alec Boyle (Shirley, Mass.), senior Jacob L'Heureux (Sanford, Maine), and sophomore Tyler Brinson (Lowell, Mass.) placed second in their heat with a time of 6:15.07, finishing behind UMass Lowell by just 1.1 seconds. Their finish in the top three advanced the oat to the finals where Wentworth took home a third-place finish with a time of 6:09.9, which was behind Bowdoin (6:02.7) and UMass Lowell (6:05.2).

The Third Varsity Four race featured a race between Wentworth and Bowdoin. Junior coxswain Orion Hansen (Tampa, Fla.) along with freshman Zachary Gaudet (Dracut, Mass.), senior Dylan McGuinness (Methuen, Mass.), senior Kyle Rowe (Eliot, Maine), and freshman Erik Fuhrmann (Charlton, Mass.) finished with a time of 6:38.9 which was behind the Polar Bears' time of 6:20.8.

Wentworth's Second Varsity Four boat enjoyed a second-place finish in its race as sophomore coxswain Sara Anderson (Manchester, N.H.) along with senior Padraic O'Sullivan (Upton, Mass.), sophomore James Bednar (Kansas City, Mo.), senior Logan O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.), and freshman Ben Coleman (Avon, Conn.) finished with a time of 6:18.6, which was only behind Bowdoin (6:07.8).

Freshman Marina Schmid (Mendon, Mass.) was the coxswain of the Novice Four boat which had a crew of Gaudet, freshman Erik Schaeffer (Shrewsbury, Mass.), freshman Noor Hassan (Lexington, Mass.), and Furhmann. The Leopards places second with a time of 6:38.1, which was only behind Bowdoin's "A" boat (6:29.4).

The Varsity Eight boat consisted of sophomore coxswain Emily Seslar (Plymouth, Mass.), Parker, Bednar, O'Sullivan, L'Heureux, O'Donnell, Boyle, Brinson, and Coleman and finished fourth with a time of 5:42.3. This time placed the Leopards fourth behind the University of Rhode Island, Middlebury, and UMass Lowell.
