SHELTON, Conn. – Paced by a first-place finish in the College Four (non-IRA) race, the Wentworth Institute of Technology rowing team picked up three medals at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta on Saturday. The Leopards raced four boats in the regatta, placing a single entry in both the Novice Eight and Novice Four races while racing a pair of boats in the College Four (non-IRA) race.
Wentworth's novice eight entry placed third among six boats, crossing the line with a time of 16:52.5. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (16:00.6) took gold while the University of Connecticut took home the silver (16:13.9). The Leopards finished ahead of a pair of Army West Point boats and the entry from NYU.
In the Novice Four race, the Black & Gold finished third out of six boats, finishing with a time of 18:23.3. Connecticut took first with a time of 17:06.2 while Fordham (17:43.9) was second. Wentworth finished ahead of three Army West Point boats in the race.
Wentworth's college four "A" boat was the most successful entry of the day as the Leopards finished placed first out of 13 boats in its race. The Leopards' time of 16:29.9, which defeated Fordham (16:43.7) and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (16:44.4). Wentworth's "B" entrant into the race also fared well, placing seventh (18:01.1).
Wentworth has a busy weekend on tap the weekend of Oct. 13-14 as the Leopards will compete at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on October 13 and the Head of the Passaic on October 14.
